How to create
the perfect cup of tea

The preparation

You prepare hojicha powder like matcha: Sift the tea powder into a bowl and add hot (but not boiling) water. Whisk the Hojicha until it's frothy. For the best results, use M-shaped moves with your wrist rather than a circular move. To make a Hojicha latte, pour the mixture over milk.

into your cup

The processing of the tea

The delicate leaves and stems of our premium Tencha green tea are roasted at 200°C with constant movement. This process gives the tea its characteristic brown color and unique aroma. Our HOJICHA POWDER has a medium roast, striking the perfect balance between fresh green tea flavors and a distinctive nutty-caramel roasted taste.

FAQ zu Hojicha Powder

Hojicha Powder is a fine, pulverised form of Hojicha tea, a traditional Japanese variety made from roasted green tea leaves. The leaves are roasted, giving rise to the unique, smoky flavour that makes this tea specialty stand out.
Hojicha tea has a pleasantly mild and slightly sweet taste with a characteristic smoky note from the roasting process. It is less grassy than other Japanese green teas and delights with its nutty and caramel-like aroma.
Yes, Hojicha naturally contains caffeine, but in lower amounts than many other green teas. The roasting process reduces a portion of the caffeine content, making Hojicha a gentle option for the afternoon or evening.
Preparing Hojicha is similar to making Matcha. To prepare Hojicha powder, whisk the powder with hot water (80°C). You can enjoy the tea as it is or mix it with your choice of milk to create a creamy Hojicha latte.
Hojicha is a Japanese green tea made by roasting the leaves. It differs from classic green teas due to its roasting process, which imparts its distinct flavour profile.
Our Hojicha is sourced from the Kagoshima region, located at the southern tip of Kyushu Island, the second-largest tea-growing area for premium green teas in Japan. The region is renowned for its innovative agricultural practices and holds a strong reputation in both Japanese and international tea markets.
The primary difference between Hojicha and Matcha lies in their production process and taste. Hojicha is made from roasted tea leaves, offering a mild, nutty flavour, whereas Matcha is produced from ground, shaded tea leaves, giving it a fresh and slightly grassy taste with a deep umami note. Additionally, Hojicha naturally contains less caffeine than Matcha.
