Excellent in taste. It made me feel really good again. For me, it's better than green matcha

How the tea tastes

Hojicha Powder

Hojicha is a popular roasted tea from Japan. For our HOJICHA POWDER, roasted green tea is a finely ground. Hojicha has a lower caffeine content than matcha, which makes it a pleasant drink for the afternoon hours. Enjoy the naturally sweet taste and pleasantly mild aroma that define this Japanese tea specialty.

The perfect brew, made easy

The preparation

You prepare hojicha powder like matcha: Sift the tea powder into a bowl and add hot (but not boiling) water. Whisk the Hojicha until it's frothy. For the best results, use M-shaped moves with your wrist rather than a circular move. To make a Hojicha latte, pour the mixture over milk.

The processing of the tea

The delicate leaves and stems of our premium Tencha green tea are roasted at 200°C with constant movement. This process gives the tea its characteristic brown color and unique aroma. Our HOJICHA POWDER has a medium roast, striking the perfect balance between fresh green tea flavors and a distinctive nutty-caramel roasted taste.

Top-Grade Matcha from Japan

Carefully selected, never compromised in quality

Every matcha we offer meets the highest standards you can see and taste — in its flavor, color, and texture. After extensive tastings and careful sourcing in Japan, our tea masters select only matcha that truly meets our expectations: vibrant green color, ultra-fine milling, and a rich, well-balanced umami profile. The quality starts before the harvest. By shading the tea plants, the leaves develop greater depth, more complex flavor, and their signature color. Traditionally stone-ground, this process creates a smooth, creamy texture with a subtle natural sweetness — refined enough to enjoy on its own and bold enough to stand out in a latte. Every batch is rigorously tested to ensure it consistently meets our high quality standards. Thanks to its natural combination of caffeine and L-theanine, matcha delivers steady, long-lasting energy — for clear focus without the typical coffee crash.

FAQ about Hojicha Powder

Hojicha powder is finely ground, roasted Japanese green tea. For hojicha, the leaves (and stems) are roasted at high temperature, which creates its characteristic brown colour and mild, nutty-caramel roasted aroma. As a powder, hojicha can be prepared like matcha: whisked on its own, as an (iced) latte, or as an ingredient for baking and cooking.
Hojicha tastes pleasantly mild, naturally sweet and far less grassy than other green teas. The roasting brings out warm notes of nuts, caramel and toast. Our hojicha powder has a medium roast – a balance between fresh green tea notes and a rounded roasted flavour.
Hojicha naturally contains caffeine, but much less than most green teas, because roasting breaks down some of it. As a rough guide, a cup of hojicha is usually under 20 mg of caffeine, while matcha provides roughly 30–70 mg depending on dosage and a cup of coffee around 80–100 mg. This makes hojicha a pleasant choice for the afternoon or evening.
Sift 2 g (about 1 teaspoon) of hojicha powder into a bowl and add about 75 ml of hot, no-longer-boiling water (~80 °C). Whisk for 15–20 seconds using loose M-shaped movements from the wrist until frothy. Enjoy it on its own, or pour it over milk of your choice for a latte.
Whisk 2 g of hojicha powder with about 75 ml of hot water (~80 °C) until smooth and frothy, then pour over frothed milk of your choice – with oat milk the latte becomes especially creamy and rounded. For an iced hojicha latte, simply pour the whisked hojicha over ice cubes and cold milk. The warm roasted aroma pairs well with milk and makes the latte naturally mild and sweet.
Yes. Because roasting gives hojicha a naturally lower caffeine content than most other green teas, it is often enjoyed in the afternoon and evening. How you personally respond to caffeine varies from person to person.
Yes. Like matcha, hojicha powder works well in the kitchen – for example in pastries, creams, ice cream or desserts. Its nutty-caramel roasted aroma pairs particularly well with milk, cream, white chocolate and caramel. Tip: sift the powder and whisk it smooth with a little liquid or fat before use.
Both are ground Japanese green tea, but they differ in processing, flavour and caffeine. Matcha is made from shaded, unroasted leaves, is vivid green and tastes fresh, grassy and umami-rich. Hojicha is made from roasted leaves, is brown and tastes mild, nutty and caramel-like. Hojicha also naturally contains less caffeine than matcha.
Our hojicha comes from Kagoshima at the southern tip of the Japanese island of Kyushu – one of the most important regions for high-quality green tea in Japan. The nutrient-rich soils of this volcanic region produce especially flavourful teas.
Store hojicha powder cool, dry and protected from light, tightly sealed; after opening, ideally in the fridge. This helps preserve its roasted aroma and flavour for as long as possible.
