How the tea tastes

Blue Earl

First flush Darjeelings, harvested in spring, are famous for their fresh, delicate taste and light, floral aroma. Adding bergamot oil gives our BLUE EARL a refreshing citrus note. The blue cornflower petals give this delicious Earl Grey variation its name and unique appearance.

the perfect cup of tea

The preparation

The floral character of First Flush Darjeelings is best revealed when prepared carefully with water that is not boiling hot, as the lower temperatures bring out the delicate aromas.

The processing of the tea

For our BLUE EARL, Italian bergamot oil is carefully mixed with high-quality black tea leaves in a drum. This process is repeated several times to achieve the desired intensity.

The origin of the tea

Darjeeling, a picturesque region nestled in the foothills of the eastern Himalayas in the Indian state of West Bengal, boasts altitudes between 600 and 1,800 meters. Its cool climate, high elevation, and nutrient-rich soil create ideal conditions for tea cultivation, giving Darjeeling tea its unique flavor. Well-known since the 19th century, it has earned the name "Champagne of teas".

FAQ about Blue Earl

Darjeeling is a premium black tea grown in the Darjeeling region of India, located in the foothills of the Himalayas. Due to its unique climate, altitude, and traditional processing methods, it is often referred to as the “champagne of teas”, known for its delicate, floral character and complex flavour profile.

Earl Grey is a flavoured black tea traditionally scented with bergamot oil. Blue Earl combines the citrus freshness of bergamot with high-quality Darjeeling tea and enhances the blend with floral elements such as cornflower petals, resulting in a refined and well-balanced cup.

Blue Earl offers a harmonious balance of bright bergamot, delicate floral notes, and the characteristic lightness of Darjeeling. The flavour is citrusy, subtly sweet, and smooth on the finish.

The Darjeeling used in Blue Earl originates from selected tea gardens in the Darjeeling region of India, an area globally recognised for producing some of the finest teas.

For best results, brew Darjeeling with fresh water at around 90–95°C. An infusion time of 2–3 minutes is recommended to preserve its delicate aromas and prevent bitterness.

Darjeeling naturally contains caffeine, though typically less than many other black teas. Its effect is often described as smoother and more balanced.

Blue Earl can be enjoyed as a refined breakfast tea, though it is lighter and more aromatic than traditional breakfast blends. It is equally suitable for afternoon enjoyment or alongside light dishes.

Darjeeling is traditionally enjoyed without milk to fully appreciate its nuanced flavour. While some Earl Grey teas are taken with milk, it is not recommended for Blue Earl, as it may mask its delicate floral and citrus notes.

Darjeeling contains antioxidants and plant compounds that can support a balanced diet. Its moderate caffeine content may also provide a gentle energising effect.

First Flush Darjeeling comes from the first harvest of the year and is known for its fresh, floral, and light character. Later harvests, such as Second Flush, tend to have fuller and more robust flavours.

To maintain its quality, the tea should be stored in an airtight container, away from light, moisture, and strong odours. This helps preserve its delicate Darjeeling and bergamot aromas.
